Falling and Floating

It has been awhile since this project has been shown. I'm not really sure what else to add or to take away. I'm hoping to get some feed back on this one.
Also here is another piece.

Two of my works

I want two of my works to be set up either right next to each other or have them as one.

Almost finished maybe

I went back to the original background to recreate the black hole with light around it and making it more believable with not just being a dark center. I added also light to the front side of my figure closest to the left corner. I also worked on the present of the figure to help with the interacting with the background.

Aaron Siskind

Thought it would nice to give some information on one artist that I have really attached myself to in a way. His work reminds me of my own. Well atleast his one series of Pleasures and Terrors of Levitation; worked on this series for more than 10 years.
Chiarenza write: Levitation, balance, equilibrium, the controlled formal composition: all are pivotal points around which life in all its opposing dualities operates. In a sense the Pleasures and Terrors pictures, abstractions drawn from the leavings of time and human gesture. Here he conveys a sense not of history but of moment of event, existential in its evocation of man's timeless condition, caught between ideals and realities.

Siskind believe that one most study technique and history consciously, as one might train for a race, so that they could gradually become an intuitive part of one's way of working.

Better late than never

I worked on a few pieces this weekend. I have been getting tripped up on the subjects clothing this weekend. I started messing around and just right now going to research on some different things to do. I will have to look more than just under the clothing. I was really interested in how the photography artist Rob thought about my work. He had a complete different look at one of my main pieces. That it reminded him of the falling man from september 11. Made him look at death rather than my openness involved in my work. This made me start thinking of different emotions I could try to involve within the piece dealing with color, contrast, and etc. Maybe I'm freezing these figures for different reasons rather than the pure moment they are in. Not just freeing the mind but also the body in a way. I will have to start looking with fresh eyes to see if I can get anything else from my work rather than the tunnel vision I was having.

Dive Away

I'm very pleased with how the photo shoot went on Monday night. I'm so glad that I looked more into Aaron Siskind's work. I would have never thought of using a diver for my pictures, I guess it just shows how much someone can just zone in on what they know and not really branch out. A few examples I will post with this blog. So far I have about five or six great shoots from that photo shoot. With that it will be hard I think when I get a chance to take pictures during track when they start practicing.

Busy weekend

This weekend has been crazy. I was not able to make it to post a blog until now. I worked all day until 11 at night on friday. Sat and sunday were busy with different things. Sadly on thursday I wasnt able to make it to the gymnastics before they were already done finishing up. I have word back from a swimmer so I will be able to get some shots that way. Luckly its near oct. So track is starting soon. Since my subjects are on a very weird sch. I have been working on two backgrounds and working on my research project. The main artist I am studying now is siskind. I believe this will help me when I will go shoot a diver because I got the idea from him. It was a series he did called pleasures and terrors of levitation.

Upcoming

So i talked to some track athletes and they do not start until oct. Which thankfully that is not to far away. However gymastics has started and I will be hopefully going to their practice this thursday to shoot. I just recieved books on Aaron Siskind this weekend. Which his photography gave me an idea of doing divers. He did a small series on divers and I never looked into that type of body movement. I believe that it would be intersting trying to connect that with my two other subjects.
I think my  this photo is going to be my t shirt to print out today during class

The wait is over

So I wanted just a day to decide to really buy a new camera. A lot of money put on the credit card later I now have a really nice camera and also has a video recorder on it. The camera is a Nikon D3100. I'm going to test it out tomorrow and see how much of a difference it is. I took a few pictures today with it and I'm already impressed with just the results of a simple car shot. I think that after working with it a bit I will not want to wait until I can take some pictures for my art work.

Project this semester

I'm continuing to do my same process as last semester stated in the earlier blog post. A few artist that I'm looking into right now are Robert Smithson, Walker Evans, and Eadweard Muybridge. All these artists are photographers. I'm hoping this weekend to try and find other artists in a different medium that can inspire me or have me look at art in a different way. Right now I am currently working on getting my backgrounds together and made. While using time to take my subjects out of their background. Mrs. Wascak brought up a good idea that I should try a green screen. This way it would take the long process of taking my subjects out and it would be an easy click and delete. Amazon has some alright priced green screens however I think I may look into making my own green screen someway. Time and money seem to be my enemy with my art process. Like most artists that can usually be the biggest battle.
Hope everyone has a good labor day break!

Using imovie

After going through the things you can use Imovie for, I think I want to try and show the whole movement involved with my works. The reason why is because with my work its suspended in a frozen time frame. You see only what I show you and I think it would be great to see the whole process of the movement some of my subjects do. The problem I see myself running into is that I would have to get permission from my subjects to video tape them. I have a feeling that it will be easier for the track athletes to say yes than the gymnastics. I would need to find more about Imovie because I will need to slow down the video since the athlete moves pretty fast. Slowing down the movement you would be able to see the different phases.

Finals

This week has been crazy so far hoping to get everything done in time. The paper is going to be the biggest changeling besides switching some of the images out of the work to use different ones. I went to the home track and got some more profile pictures since I was not able to return to the gym to take other gymnastics pictures because both jobs became overwhelming with also school work.

More Work

Yesterday I went to a gymnastics practice to get some more shots and I have five or six really great shots to work with. With getting those shots I also went out and took more concrete pictures so that I would have enough backgrounds to go with the new shots from the gymnastics practice. I will upload all these starting works so that I can get some comments on them. I should have them started by the end of the weekend or the beginning of next week. Also with that I'm going to be printing two of the projects I finished and stretch them out onto stretchers so that I can have them ready for my junior review.

Artist Research

Thought I needed to start working on this paper since I have kinda pushed it aside compared to everything else. I so far have found one who is Pete Harrison. I have another but can not seem to find articles on him. His name or company name is Boss Logic/Kode Logic. So far I have found his work under those two names.
Back to the guy that I do have articles on Pete Harrison. He is a designer out of the UK that has worked with many people and have been published.

added more

I want to finish my first two before I start working on the other ones I have. If you have any comments please do comment. I went with some of the comments you guys had before with making lines in the background like the light but not so right in your face with it and also lightened up the background around the guy in the middle with also doing a bunch of motion blur on the background layer by layer.

what I have been working on so far

Each one still needs work but if you have any comments that would be great help! This weekend I'm going to shoot my own concrete besides using stock photos that I used the burn tool and other things to make my own but like Jessica commented to me during last class I should want to take my own so I can fully appreciate and own my work. With also shooting the concrete I'm going to be taking other photos with different models.

after the critic

I have been working on the things that were stated during the critic and it's working out alright i'm not where I want to be with it to post on here but i will be posting later this week what i have so far. A lot of the comments were very helpful to get a new eye and fresh ideas on what to do with my work rather than me just doing what I thought was good.

This semster

I'm going to continue on the process of gestures but not do religion based project this time around. I want to keep up on the bright colors since the last one I did was better than the others in the series. I have a few artist that I'm looking at right now that use color, and light that I'm drawn to and interested in. I will be posting some of their work or the links to their work to give you an idea of their use of color and light.
